Metropolitan Lynchburg/Moore County Tennessee

Lynchburg, TN isn't a place you "pass through" on your way to somewhere else. It is so off the beaten path, it's either your destination or you are lost. It is a tiny little town in a tiny little county with one BIG industry - JACK DANIELS DISTILLERY. Granted, most people come to Lynchburg the first time to take the tour of the oldest registered distillery in the United States.
If you take the time to stay a little longer, you will discover an American dream:

An old fashioned town, the likes of which you may have thought no longer existed. A charming town square surrounds the 100 year old courthouse. You will soon be browsing leisurely through a variety of unique shops. No need to hurry. Just stop and chat awhile. Life moves at a slower pace in Lynchburg.

A drive around Moore County will leave you breathless. The sight of magnificent rolling hills, horse and cattle farms, beautiful old homes and churches, will have you humming God Bless America. You may have to stop while a flock of turkeys cross the road in front of you and be on the look out for deer. And yes, that fellow who just passed you in his pickup truck waved at you. That's a Lynchburg tradition.

We like to boast that Moore County is the home of Motlow State Community College. We have recently established a Historic Preservation Commision. So, as you can see, we are preparing for the future while protecting the past.

The Moore County Chamber of Commerce has created this website. We are a group of business individuals who love Lynchburg and want the world to know about our little old fashioned treasure. At this site you'll find tourist information: special events, places to visit, shop, eat and sleep. If you are a businessperson, you'll find information that will assist you whether you are planning to establish permanently or setup as a vendor at one of our many weekend festivals. If you are looking for a place to retire or raise you family, you can find information about schools, taxes, and population and such as that.

Before we go, we should tell you what you will not find in Lynchburg. There are no super stores, large malls or high-rise buildings. The hustle and bustle of the big city life has by-passed Lynchburg. After you visit us, and spend a day or two in yesterday, we think you will understand, that is just the way we like it.

A big historical change came about in Moore County on November 17, 1987. The voters of Moore County voted for Lynchburg and Moore County to become a Metropolitan Government. This did away with the seperate government of Lynchburg and Moore County and established a consolidated form of government, being know as we are today - Metropolitan Lynchburg/Moore County.

Metropolitan Lynchburg/Moore County, on the election date, become the 22nd, and the smallest Metropolitan Government in the entire United States, as for as population. Today, we enjoy many benefits in Metropolitan Lynchburg/Moore County due to the consolidated form of government.

Our small county is ranked 94 out of 95 counties in Tennessee in population. In most cases the small counties have lower family incomes, less education and have higher unemployment.
